Carl Weber (1835-1897): An Austrian pharmacist in Mexico
In 1864 the Austrian archduke Maximilian (18321867) was enthroned as Emperor of Mexico. During his short regency he was supported by a corps of Austrian volunteers. Among them was an adventurous young pharmacist, Carl Weber. is article describes the background to Austria's involvement in Mexico in the mid-nineteenth century, the life and background of Carl Weber, and his role in the Mexican Corps of Austrian Volunteers. After returning to Europe he regained his professional footing as a community pharmacist and then in the pharmaceutical industry.
